Sliding Scale Scholarship Information and Application for ATSIP

My mission:

I aspire to help create a world in which all therapists feel comfortable discussing sex in therapy, and in which all have access to the training they need in order to do so with accuracy, skill, and confidence. To this end, I write, speak, teach, and create online and in-person learning opportunities.

Why I offer scholarships:

I am aware that some of the most amazing and deserving helping professionals in the world may not have the ability to pay the full fee for my course. I recognize and strongly value the diversity that people from all walks of life bring to ATSIP, including early-career professionals, members of historically marginalized groups, people undergoing financial hardship, and citizens of countries with a disadvantaged exchange rate with the USA. For those reasons, I offer a limited number of reduced-fee scholarships.

Who is the ideal applicant?

The ideal applicant:

  • Is committed to expanding their skills to include working with sex issues.
  • Knows why they want to take my course, and what they will do with the information they gain.
  • Is excited about the opportunity to take the course.
  • Has ideas about how they will pay it forward.
  • Is interested in being an active part of the online learning community for the next four months.
  • Wants to make a difference in their community and the world.

How to decide if you should apply:

Sliding scale scholarships are intended to benefit students who truly need them. Before you apply, I ask that you consider carefully. Because we have a limited number of slots at the middle and lower end of the scale, we ask you to consider that if you purchase a course at the lower end of the scale when you can honestly afford the higher prices, you are reducing the spots available to those who truly need them. If you are able to afford the list price, please leave the spot for someone else.

Sliding scale tiers:

Take the time to carefully consider what you can honestly afford. Would paying for the course mean cutting back on extraneous spending for a while, or would it cut in to your ability to provide for your basic needs?

Honestly assessing where you fall enables us to offer as many scholarships as possible to those who need them. It also helps to support the continuance of my work, and allows me to invest more time in building a strong community and creating low-cost and accessible resources.

Please write out your responses to the following prompts, devoting no more than a paragraph to each question, and email to [email protected].

  • Why do you want to take my online course, Assessing and Treating Sex Issues in Psychotherapy?
  • How do you plan to use the knowledge you gain from this course to benefit yourself and your community?
  • How do you plan to participate in, and nurture, the online community of helping professionals who are taking the course this year?
  • Do you have at least 3 hours/week (on average) of time available to devote to the course between now and July?
  • Please explain to me why you think you qualify for a reduced fee, and tell me which tier you are applying for.
